Rob explained everything to me, answered all my questions, and made sure I knew all the troubleshooting spots for my new systems. They kept everything neat, and cleaned up everything on their way out. Rob and Matt showed up first thing in the morning for all four days of the install, and were friendly, courteous, and professional. It became a more urgent to get the system installed as the temperatures dropped, and they were able to fit me in quite soon, and supplied me with space heaters in the interim. I picked the angel key at the end, and got the bad ending. I had a similar outcome- I did two "bad" things (releasing the spider to kill the guard and ratting out the winged guy), and did the "good" thing for every other choice in the game. I appreciate what the game is trying to do in terms of moral philosophy, but I still think it's a bit ridiculous and stupid how it handles this issue. Is that what this actually is, a struggle against odds that are heavily stacked against you because of the very nature of the game? Or is it a simple balance issue? That's an interesting idea too, that "sort of good" isn't good enough - you may have been "sort of good" in the events that took place prior to the game, but not good enough to avoid doing something horrific in the heat of the moment. The scales are already heavily tipped toward darkness, so your actions need to be almost entirely (or entirely) pure in order to bring them back. I suppose the idea that you do need to be basically perfect fits into the fiction, though. And yet in the final analysis, I was damned anyway! Isn't that kind of ridiculous, that we have to be basically perfect through the entire game to achieve salvation? I get that you're not exactly a good guy going into things, but that's a serious imbalance. (One was actually a mistake, I meant to release the rodent but mixed up the symbols on the lever, so he died instead.) The rest, seven or eight or however many decisions remained, went in my favour - showing I had a good heart. Okay, so I finished the game, stood to be judged, and had only two strikes against me. I'm not going to bother with the spoiler tag, since the whole thing is basically a spoiler, so consider yourself warned, read on at your own risk, etc. I am pretty sure it is legal when you take these as long as it is for your own private use only. This is about the ending of the game and is thus likely to include information that you won't be aware of until you've finished it. PS:The soundtrack can be found un-encrypted in the game's files, with nearly zero search (but sadly only as. Giving an option to "die" would kill this prinicple.Īlso, some sort of third path than good/bad ending would be highly appreciated, some way to question the final judge, and not accept your destiny. One of the main gameplay aspects of this game is it's relative easy-ness (if that's even a word), in exchange for no checkpoints/saveslots. Tormentum - (3) I 100% agree with your opinion of the story being closed, so yeah, there has to come a "spin-off" then, but permanent failing wouldn't do any good, i think. And if you still want to go with the same sort of theme, then when you die, you would just end up in limbo with no where to go, or maybe make it possible to make it out of limbo, which then put you back at an earlier state/checkpoint. That sort of ambiguity would actually be preferable, as that would add an extra layer. I thought, since I released the woman, that if I released him he would just turn and kill me. But the art and mood made me not want to do or made me do stuff, because I thought it may be bad, like releasing the jester. I know that the story in this doesn't really fit with that. Originally posted by Tigon_3rd:I would actually like to be able to fail. This story is closed, but whose to say there can't be others that have to go through similar things. So yeah, please include a soundtrack next time, either with the game or as an optional buy.Īnd I would not want a direct sequel, only a sequel as in name and style. " The Evolution Of The Human Trophic Level During The Pleistocene". " Saving Large Carnivores, but Losing the Apex Predator?" Biological Conservation, vol. This analysis, in essence, is another line of evidence that ancient humans ate a ton of meat.Ordiz, Andrés, et al. The scientists also pointed out that an analysis of different nitrogen isotopes (variants of the element nitrogen) in ancient human remains, the ratio of which tends to increase with a meat-heavy diet, reveals consistently high ratios of nitrogen compared with the ratios of nitrogen isotopes in the fingernails and hair of people with a primarily plant-based diet. The review, published in 2021 in the American Journal of Biological Anthropology, argued that humans have more physiological similarities to carnivores than to herbivores, such as highly acidic stomachs to break down complex proteins and kill harmful bacteria, and the high body fat capable of carrying carnivores through a period of fasting before the next big kill. They concluded that humans likely were apex predators who ate mostly meat for around 2 million years, up until 12,000 years ago, when the last ice age ended. Ben-Dor and colleagues reviewed studies on human physiology, genetics, archaeology and paleontology to reconstruct the trophic levels of our Pleistocene (2.6 million to 11,700 years ago) ancestors. Historically, there may have been less of a discrepancy between what we eat and how much we kill. It was later released back into the water. This young shark was caught by mistake as industrial fishing bycatch. Related: Humans are practically defenseless. Instead, they suggest the term "super-consumer." "A predator ingests what it kills," Bonhommeau and colleagues wrote in an unpublished response to the Science article. These unintentionally caught animals often sustain injuries or die, according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. Meanwhile, people fishing the oceans throw away between 10% and 20% of total catches as bycatch, according to a 2017 study in the journal Fish and Fisheries. For instance, the main causes of lion population declines are habitat loss and clashes with humans, who don't want lions threatening them or their livestock. "I think this article was misleading by confusing killing and predating (kill and ingest food)," he wrote in an email.įor the most part, we're not killing wildlife to eat them. However, Bonhommeau disagrees with the assessment that humans are super-predators, which he interprets as a conflation with the term "top-predator." (The authors of the Science paper were not available for comment.) In ecology, predator has a specific definition: they eat what they kill. "If you take into account how wide our impact on wildlife is, it's huge," Bonhommeau said. They found that humans kill adult prey at rates up to 14 times higher than other predators. In a 2015 report published in the journal Science, scientists at the University of Victoria in Canada compared the activity of human hunters and fishers with that of other terrestrial and marine predators. Some scientists argue that humans' pressure on other species makes us "super predators," a term the authors coined to refer to the rate at which humans kill other species. Of course, humans pose a much larger threat to other animals than anchovies and pigs do. Meanwhile, those in Iceland, where the diet consisted of around 50% meat that same year, had a trophic level of 2.57. In Burundi, for instance, plants made up 96.7% of the local diet in 2009, giving those in that country a trophic level of 2.04. But humans' trophic levels vary worldwide. That puts us at an average trophic level of 2.21 - somewhere between anchovies and pigs. They found that, on average, humans get 80% of their daily calories from plants and 20% from meat and fish, according to the team's 2013 study results, published in the journal Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences. Using data from the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations on human food consumption around the world, the IFREMER scientists assigned a trophic level to each food we eat. |
